Troutman Library update
For those of you who don’t know me yet, you will find that one of my favorite causes is the effort going on right now to build a library in Troutman. I joined the Citizens for the Troutman Library committee in late 2006 and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with this dedicated group of folks! Citizens for the Troutman Library have raised over $675,000 thus far for the library to be built on the corner of Church and Brown Streets in Troutman, a centrally located site on over 2 acres of land, which was donated by the Town of Troutman. Over 95% of these funds have come from local individuals and businesses. Those who have made donations will be recognized as follows on permanent plaques on display at the library:
$100,000 and up Benefactor
$50,000 – $99,999 Patron
$25,000 – $49,999 Sponsor
$10,000 – $24,999 Donor
$1,000 - $9,999 Supporter
In addition, all donations under $1000 will be recognized as “Friends” in a Book of Recognition on display at the library.
Although the initial fundraising goal of $600,000 set in 2004 has been surpassed, it is imperative that fundraising efforts continue due to inflation and increases in the cost of construction materials. The architectural design process has begun with an emphasis on maximizing space in a cost efficient manner in order to meet the needs of the rapidly expanding Troutman community. Once the design is finalized (look for a post with a rendering of the design–coming VERY soon!), incorporating public feedback, the current cost of site preparation and construction can be more closely estimated, but it is expected to be near $1,000,000. In kind donations of materials and labor will likely decrease this cost, but cannot be included in any cost estimate until specific pledges are secured. Once completed, the library building will be owned by the Town of Troutman, but Iredell County will stock, staff, and operate the library as a branch of the Iredell County Public Library System. A project time-line has been established, with construction scheduled to begin in the spring of 2009, with completion by January 1, 2010.
Citizens for the Troutman Library is a volunteer, non-profit organization, and all donations are tax deductible under Section 501(c)(3). Checks can be made out to Citizens for the Troutman Library and mailed to P.O. Box 74, Troutman, NC 28166. All donations received will be acknowledged promptly with a letter. If you have any questions or need further information, please call us at 704-528-7602. If you are interested in becoming involved with the group, we meet the second Monday of each month at 7pm in the Town Hall in Troutman! New members are always welcome! Hope to see you there!
